This week we compared the promotion videos of US, China and Japan, from which we can tell the difference between the eastern and western cultures. China and Japan are similar. They both focus more on the environment and cultural, but the Japanese one has something different. It divides the video into three parts(if I remember correctly), the street, culture and one other thing. The American one, on the other hand, obviously pay more attention to the human (similes). I think this one can represent more about America than the last one, but still, I wonder if it is soccer instead of american football XD.
After videos, we had a role play about the power distance. I really appreciate this style of lesson because I was exhausted after the classes in the morning and this interesting group activity kept me awake XD. Also I think it is a good way to learn than traditional teaching styles. Back to the topics, the low power distance in workplace is nicer but somehow I think it is not straightforward enough. Like, even the boss thinks your proposal is bad, he still says "good, not bad" something like that to make you feel better. People in low power distance culture understand the implied meaning, but it could be a problem for people from high power distance culture because they may believe what the boss said and think they really did a good job.
