Chapter 6_ Response_ Yoyo
Chapter 6 mainly talks about the
uncertainty avoidance. One thing that I disagree with the chapter is that China
is low uncertainty avoidance country. Actually, I do think China should score
higher in its uncertainty avoidance survey. It can be shown in many ways. According
to Hofstede, high uncertainty avoidance countries are conservative and have
many laws and orders. People in those countries have weak interest in politics
and protests are repressed. They do not express their emotion publicly. I do
think China belongs to high uncertainty avoidance country. China government indeed
imposes many laws and orders to restrict uncertain behaviors of people. They are
extremely sensitive about protests and they repress them in order to avoid
uncertainty. People are restricted to comment anything bad about the government
or the political leaders on internet. Otherwise, they will be arrested. Unlike the
Americans, Chinese do not express their emotion publicly, like shouting,
laughing out loud, screaming. They tend to hide their emotions. For example,
they will use their hands to cover their mouths when they are laughing. In school,
teachers prefer to ask closed-ended questions instead of open-ended questions. Innovation
and change are not substantially encouraged.
