In the past few chapters, it has mainly
associated culture with nationality. Besides to our own family, our Nation no
doubt is a big group we engaging in. Work organization is another one. In the
beginning of the chapter, the writer rise up an example of organizational
cultures – How Heaven’s Gate BV succeeded in the past and its organizational management
culture. “The difference between national and organizational cultures is based
their different mix of values and practices. National cultures are part of the
mental software we acquired during the first ten years of our lives.
Organizational cultures are more superficial.” Quoted from P346.
The values and practices in Nation and
Organization are different. And so working as a civil servant and a normal
employee are totally different. Nation looks for stability. Every country in
the world is monitoring each other. Even A little mistake can be magnified a
lot and examined under people. In Macau, many people like to be a civil servant
because of all kinds of welfare. For those people who are not interested in
being a civil servant. It is usually because of the slow pace and boring nature
of the job. Oppositely, organization usually looks for breakthrough. Being the
same as all the other companies in market is no good. Be special is important
in a competitive market. Therefore, the way HGBV management its business quite
makes sense but it is not often seen in the government. By the way, university
is also a slowly changing community.
