This
chapter discussed the difference between long-term oriented and short-term
oriented societies. To explain it briefly, long-term oriented values the future
while short-term oriented values the past. This affects the lives of people in
many ways, such as people in long-term oriented society work very hard.
I believe this
chapter was one of the best in describing the difference of several societies. It
is true that many East Asian countries try to learn from other countries to improve
themselves. I also think that long-term oriented society cares about how others
think of themselves. For example, a rock singer (I forgot the name of the group
and singer), who came to some East Asian countries, was asked how he felt about
the countries. He explained that he felt strange about being asked about such a
thing because he never had such a question in countries in other region.
