Reflection to the Week 10

Happy spring! I’m so glad that it is getting warmer and warmer in Champaign!!
At the beginning of the class, we confirmed what to do the rest of the class. It seems that next week will be the last regular class for us, which made me surprised. Time flies! We also confirmed things that we have to do for the Undergrad Research Symposium.
The topic today was about the organizational culture. Margo and Katherine made a presentation for us. We firstly did a game. We were divided into two groups, and we decided who would be the leader of the group. We line up in a certain order as early as possible, following the instruction of Margo. For example, we have to line up in the alphabetical order based on our family name.
Next, we did a quiz regarding organization structure. After that, Margo and Katherine gave a presentation regarding the reading of this week.
I like the discussion session after their presentation. Mr. Murillo gave us a very interesting question; what do you think is the factor to determine the organizational culture? As I explained in the class, I think there is no specific factor. It is rather a combination of several factors: purpose of the organization, history of the establishment of the organization, people in the organization, and leaders of the organization.
I learned the importance of asking good questions in this class. Good question refers to the question which make people think about many things, make more people involve in the discussion, and make the discussion interesting and meaningful to everyone in the class. As for the discussion this time, a question given by Mr. Murillo was a good one; it made me think many things about the organization. I believe such a skill is essential to lead the discussion as well as make the discussion meaningful and interesting to everyone. Since there were few classes left, I will try my best in each class by asking good questions.
