Chapter 9 discusses about the organization
culture of company in different countries. The chapter points out that power
distance and uncertainty avoidance has been applied in creating organization
culture in company. Generally speaking, in western company with low power
distance and uncertainty avoidance, cooperation and creativity are encouraged. In
eastern company with high power distance and uncertainty avoidance, obedience to
superior and prudence is endorsed. ISO9001 could be a good example to
illustrate the organization culture in eastern countries. It is a standard for
examining companies. To quality ISO9001, staff in company should make and follow rules
strictly, and run operation step by step. In the last part of the chapter,
there’s a table shows specific organization cultures in five countries. It is
interesting to see that companies in United States stress more on the growth of
company rather than profits; personal wealth rather than family interests. Companies
in Chinese emphasize more on power, reputation, honor, face, etc.
