Chapter 4 Reflection

I really enjoyed Chapter 4 and found it to be more interesting than the others chapters that we have read thus far because I felt that it dealt with and explained more issues concerning culture differences, rather than just giving numerical charts and such. It was interesting to read about the power distance issues in the workplace, in school, and with families. It was eye opening to read about high power distance countries that are so extremely different from the culture that I have grown up in and always been accustomed to. Especially after class last Friday and the activities that we did, it was interesting to read about all of the differences in the culture--especially as it concerns the vast differences between the ways that the American students and the students from Macau have been conditioned to behave in various instances. I am now especially interested in the way that I would view culture had I been brought up in a high power distance environment. It was really weird to be able to read about the low power distance cultures and in every instance to agree with all of the points made, knowing that they completely fit what I am used to!
