Week 2_reaction_Gloria

Culture consists of unwritten rules of the social games. It’s invisible whereas we can experience it. The game we played in class can definitely live up to what culture means!

When we live in a new place that we’re not familiar with the language and those “proper” social behaviors, it’s hard to get into the groups! Such as I don’t understand why people who live in beta culture keep making the odd sounds, and they may also don’t understand why we (people in Aphla culture) keep touching others in the conversations. It’s quite awkward when we’re brand new in another culture, we even don’t know how to express ourselves and how to react! Luckily, it’s just a game for us to experience! !

People may feel shocked or confused because of the cultural difference, at this point, we should be open-minded, respectful and tolerant so that it helps to create a harmonious atmosphere among people and get to know more about another culture.

Besides, one may be considered as absurd if s/he doesn’t behave as people expected. It’s because people who live within the same social environment share the same values, rituals, heroes and symbols! Culture is reproduced and learned by practicing and imitating. It seems that culture is permanent and hierarchy. However, one thing interest me is that people usually flow from one place to another place, they will also bring in their own culture and thus it may gradually permeate through the people there. Therefore, culture may become diverse and dynamic.

I am so glad that I can take course HRE199 because I can meet people from different culture background and be able to broaden my horizon and deepen my understanding of different cultures! Look forward to enjoying the wonderful time with you guys!  :)
