I have to say, this chapter is not that easy for me to understand. I didn't know a paradigm and the dimensions approach before I read this chapter. But now I know what they are and how they were used.
For me, I think culture is invisible, so I have no idea if I need to conduct a research about culture. This chapter indicates the research method and research process in details. But I am still a little bit confused. I keep thinking these questions when I was reading this chapter. Why researchers chose IBM as the objects of study? Why they used the dimensions approach? How can they avoid bias through the process? How did those four dimensions come up? Was this research reliable and valid? I tried to find the answers in the reading. I have answers for some questions, but not all. I look forward to discussing with my teacher and classmates tomorrow.
As for the four dimensions, they are power distance, collectivism vs. individualism, femininity vs. masculinity, and uncertainty avoidance. I'm interested about how these dimensions came up. I have some basic ideas about what these dimensions are about, so I look forward to reading the following chapters and communicate with my teacher and classmates also.
I appreciate the researchers. They did find ways to study cultural difference and they did devote themselves to doing this research. Not only did I learn the research method and process from this chapter, I also learnt the spirit of these outstanding researchers.
