Week 3 Response
I found Chapter 3 to be interesting because inequality in society has been prevalent throughout history, and in all countries over the world. In the case of our class, China would be considered a country with high power distance, while the US would definitely be a low power distance country. In low power distance countries, individualism is expected and praised and people are supposed to step out of the box to be noticed for their efforts. In high power distance countries, individuals are expected to stay within their ranks and follow what superiors have told them to do. I think it would be really eye-opening to spend time in a country with a power distance different from what I am used to, as the students from Macau have been able to do here. I really like the ability to express creativity in the US and other low power distance countries, but there is definitely still inequality in both types of countries.
