Week Two Reaction (Esther)

I really enjoyed the game we played in class last Friday. It was obvious that people from different cultures may have difficulties in communicating with each other. Sometimes it may cause laughter, and sometimes it may cause embarrassment. When I went to Beta Culture area, I really felt confused and annoyed when I couldn't understand what people were talking about. I didn't know how they transfer the information and what I should respond. That kind of feeling was not good actually. Similarly, when people from Beta Culture came to our area, they were also confused, which was so fun.

From this game we could know the wide gap between different cultures, but I want to say in real life, people have ways to solve it. Just like what we did after entering Beta Culture, we tried to follow what people do in beta culture. We also tried to find out the way how they communicate with each other. So I believe if the time is long enough, people from different culture are possible to communicate smoothly with each other. They may even create new culture.

After the game, we discussed the preference of the names. Do you prefer others to call you your English name or name in your native language? Actually I didn't notice this question before. How should I call you? In what way can I show my respect? People should think of it. It's a small example of problems when people from different culture communicate with each other. From this example, I can see people's respect to others, which is extremely important.
