Chapter
2 mainly talks about the research process based on a paradigm and the
dimensions approach. I think it’s interesting to distinguish how people think
the world ought to be versus what people want for themselves. It’s important
for us to pay attention to the difference between them. Otherwise, the interpretations
of people’s values may not be accurate.
Besides,
I also find the IBM research very interesting and inspiring, since a dimension
is an aspect of a culture that can be measured relative to other cultures. (p.31)
Dimensions are based on correlations, the coefficient of correlation can help
us to analyze the relationship between variables. I want to know more about the
different dimensions, such as the power distance, collectivism versus individualism,
femininity versus masculinity, uncertainty avoidance and so on in the following
chapters!
Moreover,
after reading this article, I realize that we should make good use of the
literature and the internet resources. To interpret, compare and apply them properly
when we don’t have too many accesses to the different countries for the
investigation.
