Chapter 3 focused on research over the topic called power distance. Power distance is "defined as the extent to which less powerful members of institutions and organizations within a country expect and accept that power is distributed unequally" (pg. 61) In other words, different countries have different views when it comes to power inequality. This was analyzed through different responses to a question during the research which asked about what a person preferred regarding their boss’s decisions about their work. For countries where there people tend to be afraid of those above them, there are more people who prefer letting their boss carry out the major decisions. On the other hand, people who lived in societies where there are not afraid of their superiors demonstrate more favor in negotiating with bosses about important decisions (pg. 60-61). I find this idea to be very true because when people grow up in a restricted surroundings with not very much freedom, they have a tendency to think that they can't or shouldn't do anything to improve their situation. When this happens they live in a state of fear which causes them to feel uncomfortable if they want to change the situation. This is true in countries where there are dictatorships or kings. Conversely, people who grew up with more freedom feel more comfortable when it comes to addressing any injustice they feel in their work environment. As a result, they are more likely to improve their situation and prevent their boss from taking unfair advantage.  This occurs most often in democracies.

Another idea that I found to be interesting was the connection between social class and inequality (pg. 64). People who are classified as being part of the lower class don't have as much of an access to a good education. As a result, they will not be able to apply for jobs with a high salary. This will further correspond to holding less power in society and, thus, being less equal. The opposite would be true with people in higher classes. I think it is unfortunate that not all people are able to get a solid education. Those who are lucky and motivated enough gain successful positions should try to help the less fortunate. This can help make a difference in the lives of many. Hence, the world would be a better place to live in.
