I enjoyed the game that we played in class
last week. Aphla culture emphasizes on body contact but hand shaking is considered
as kind of rude behavior. When I was learning the alpha culture, I tried to
imagine what beta culture would be. What if beta was all the way different? What
an embarrassing situation it is if we were asked for hand shaking all the time!
Fortunately, I didn’t see any of these funny things happened. I found that
although we are having difference culture background, when betas came to us, they
attempted to copy what we did. They tried hard to adapt themselves to our culture.
It is what we are actually doing in US. Even as routine as ordering food, we acted
as what we saw and followed the suit. However, as mentioned in chapter 1,
culture is something that outsider cannot understand easily. It would take a
long time to learn a culture. But this makes study abroad even more interesting.
I enjoyed the class very much and look forward to the inspiring surprise next
week.
