Chapter Two reading was definitely a different reading than the other articles I've read in regards to cultures and people. This article focuses on studying cultural differences. It was a different perspective of exactly how to measure culture differences. It mentions variables and how to measure values. I never would have put variables when it comes to measuring a non-object/physical thing. By this, we are measuring values like how an individual interprets certain things to his or her own values, but then we go ahead and see the different interpretation of societal norms and exactly what and how norm perceives what is right.

The article brings up coefficient of correlation which expresses the strength of the relationship. We measure these coefficients through dependent and independent variables.

What was one intriguing part of the article, is when it spoke about national culture which was now called national character or modal personality. It talked about the accusation of stereotyping individuals and how exactly different dimensions can hinder this. That there are different dimensions, meaning sides, to measuring personality and culture. For example: openness to experience versus rigidity, agreeableness versus ill-temperedness, etc. And, that the different dimensions are: universalism vs. particularism, individualism vs. collectivism effectivity vs. neutrality, specificity vs. diffuseness, achievement vs. ascription, time orientation, and relation to nature.

Overall, this article hit many different points that I haven't thought about when trying to decipher cultural differences. Usually, I think of language, linguistic, and traditions, but there are just so much more that play in the arena.
