Week 4 reaction

This week we watched the video of China, Japan and America. Those videos showed the unique cultures of those three places and they were all impressive. Personally, I like the video of Japan, especially the nature scenes it showed, like the sakura and Fuji mountain, and its culture and food as well. In fact, there are some similarities between the chinese and janpanese culture. I'd say the cultures between these two countries are strongly influenced by each other. The traditional japanese culture was influenced by the chinese culture due to the historical connection. While the modern chinese culture is influcenced by the japanese culture due to the globalization.

The activity of power distance was interesting, partly because of our funny and talented actor David! Actually, he is not only good at acting, but also dancing. ;) I think we should ask him to dance next time! I think power distance shows the culture differences among countries. In eastern countries, power distance is usually high. For example, the Chinese culture is strongly influenced by the confusion which stresses on the hierarchy of status and respect to our superior, like our parents, teachers and boss. In western countries, power distance is usually low because of the democratic cultures which stresses on freedom and equality. In our daily life, we could easily notice the different level of power distances in both school and workplace. By knowing the differences of power distances, we have better knowledge about why people behave differently in different countries.
