KATHERINE~ Chapter 2 response~

As the second part of the book, chapter two mainly focuses on the research method, research process and some part of literature review. Based on the dimensions approach introduced by Greet, the authors use a more quantitative way to examine cross-cultural differences. Besides, their findings are highly related to the research done about the different attitudes among employees in IBM toward similar problems. By comparing and combining different cultural studies , such as The Chinese Value Model, Global Leadership and Organizational Behavior Effectiveness  and also World Value Survey, the writers finally complete their research process.

Obviously we can benefit a lot from learning their research process. We can have a better idea of what kind of research method we got to choose in future papers and how that kind of process should be done. But what I found more interesting is at the end of the chapter, they mentioned “cultural differences in respect of region, ethnicity, religion (p.45)” These dimensions are categorized as only partly reflect the differences, since the differences have to take domestic issues, for example some historical events in to account. However, in my opinion domestic issues are part of the process of the development of certain culture. Ancient Chinese usually work together in a village and share their products, may inducing the collectivist culture. America on the other hand may be influenced by their colonist history and tend to be more individualism.
