Response to Chapter 3_Ben

While I was reading the chapter 3, I found that was quite interesting topic. Although I already heart about the idea of power distance before, this topic still was attractive to me. The chapter mentioned the idea of power distance and adopted a lot of examples and survey to analysis the result and created a fundamental theory to the readers. Additionally, I believed that the author showed the impact and differences of power distance in various countries, it also reflected that how the power distance affected the different aspects of society. Indeed, the western countries were the best example of small power distance, such as the United States, Germany and Great Britain. In contrast, the large power distances countries were Malaysia, China and Most of African and Latin American countries. The history, culture and customs caused the differences of equality occurred in those districts, it also caused the misunderstanding or cultural shock till nowadays.

In my opinion, it was quite easy to realize the differences of equality when I lived or traveled in different countries. Indeed, Macau was a Portuguese colony for 400 years, Macau politics influenced by both Portuguese and Chinese deeply, the politics and culture of Macau were still traditional, all citizens cannot vote for electing our executive chief. If general people desired to get a high position in the society, you have to acquire a prominent family background or be a sophisticate; it was a good symbol of large power distance. On the contrary,  I experienced the American culture at this time, people tended to treat everyone as equal and the American citizens can elect their own president. However, I argued that small and large power distant have their own advantages and disadvantages, the cultural difference was quite interesting to me. It was impossible to judge which is the best, the small power distant became a trend and mainstream in the international society.
